Studies report up to a 50% reduction in complications—including pulmonary and infection risks.
Stronger going in.
Safer coming out.
Preluma uses the new science of prehabilitation—or “prehab”—to build physiologic resilience that can reduce complications and risk before surgery, cancer treatment, or a fall. Guided by physicians and delivered at home.
Based on research from leading universities worldwide
Why it matters
Patients who prepare recover faster, with fewer complications.
Prehabilitation uses the time before surgery, treatment, or a fall to build strength and resilience—so your body is better prepared for the challenge ahead.
Outcomes vary by patient, program, and procedure. View the supporting research before relying on any headline statistic.

Personalized preparation may support mobility, confidence, and fatigue management through recovery.
How it works
Comprehensive care.
At home.
A physician-led, multimodal program built around your health, goals, timeline, and home environment.
Risk assessment
Personalized assessment of your health conditions, medication review, and physical status to evaluate your risk and how to best optimize your physiologic state before surgery, treatment, or to reduce fall risk.
Targeted exercise training
Individually prescribed strength, balance, and endurance training designed to build physiologic reserve, with supervised and home-based components.
Nutritional support
Canadian research found that 45% of adults admitted to hospital were malnourished, and Canadian reporting has noted that 75% of cases can go unnoticed. We provide guidance on protein intake, caloric needs, and evidence-based supplementation to support muscle preservation and recovery. Study ↗ Canadian report ↗
Psychological preparation
Stress reduction strategies, education, and confidence-building interventions designed to support recovery and reduce fear around what comes next.
Our team, including our physicians, provides coaching and support to help you prepare—we do not diagnose or treat medical conditions. This service does not replace your medical doctors; please continue following their advice.

Is this program covered by OHIP?
Preluma services are not covered by OHIP. Some extended health plans may reimburse eligible services provided by regulated professionals. Coverage varies, and we will explain program fees and available receipts before you commit.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
No. You can book a free consultation directly. Referrals from a surgeon or family physician are welcome, and we can coordinate with them.
When should I start prehabilitation?
As soon as possible. The more time you have before surgery or treatment—or to build strength against fall risk—the more you stand to gain. Even a short window is worth using.
What if I don’t have much time before surgery?
Research suggests that around three weeks of focused preparation is typically needed to produce a meaningful improvement in physical fitness and reduce surgical risk—with longer programs showing even greater benefit. For this reason, we recommend starting at least three weeks before surgery. If your surgery is sooner, reach out and we’ll help you make the most of the time you have.
How much time does it take each week?
Most patients train about three times a week, roughly an hour per session, with dietitian and coaching check-ins built around their schedule. Your clinician adjusts the plan to your energy, mobility, and timeline.
What if I am not comfortable using technology?
That is completely fine. Preluma is designed around in-home support, and we can use phone calls, printed instructions, and simple routines instead of apps or video technology. We will find an approach that works for you.
Why didn’t my doctor or surgeon mention prehabilitation to me?
Prehabilitation is a relatively new field. Although preparation has long been used in elite sport, its application to surgery and oncology has gained meaningful clinical attention more recently, and referral pathways are still developing. Many surgeons and family physicians know about prehabilitation but may not have a local program to recommend. Preluma was built to make evidence-based preparation easier to access, whether or not it came up during your medical consultation.
